Olynyk, Carleton named Toyota Canada Players of the Week

TORONTO, Ont. (Aug. 28, 2023) - Kelly Olynyk and Bridget Carleton have been named the Toyota Canada Players of the Week for Aug. 21-27.

After being named captain of Canada’s Senior Men’s National Team at the FIBA Men’s Basketball World Cup 2023, Olynyk helped Canada to a first-place finish in Group H — the country’s first-ever Group Phase win in Men’s World Cup history. Olynyk is averaging 15 points points per game through the World Cup, to go along with six rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. Olynyk, a native of Kamloops, B.C., and Canada are back in action on Friday with Second Round action against Brazil.

Carleton had one of her best performances of the 2023 WNBA season, putting up 14 points in a win over the Dallas Wings. The Chatham, Ont. product had some big buckets down the stretch in the Lynx win, finishing the night with four three-pointers (4-6 3PT), while hauling in five rebounds and notching two assists. The Lynx are currently chasing after a playoff spot, holding a 17-19 record through 36 games. Carleton last suited up for Canada at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 this past fall, where she helped lead Canada to a fourth-place finish.
