Ontario, Alberta dominate semifinals to set up championship clashes at Nationals
THE RUNDOWN
Semi-finals action wrapped up on day five of the 2026 U15 and U17 National Championships as four teams booked their trip to the finals and consolation action continued at Bishop’s University in Sherbrooke, Quebec on Friday.
NOTEWORTHY
- Ontario is heading to the gold-medal games in both age groups after taking down British Columbia in the semifinals. The U15 women rolled to a 95-54 victory, with Makayla Scott-Bush leading the way with 24 points. The U17 women followed with a 79-67 win, paced by 17 points from Abigel Solomon.
- It sets up a pair of Ontario-Alberta showdowns in Saturday’s finals. The U15 matchup will see Ontario look to go back-to-back, while the U17 final gives Ontario a chance to avenge its loss to Alberta in last year’s 2025 Canada Summer Games gold-medal game. The U17 teams have already met once at Nationals, with Ontario winning 72-58. Alberta’s U15 women defeated host Quebec 79-56, led by Jade Nnani with 14 points and 13 rebounds, while its U17 team cruised past Nova Scotia 72-49 behind a game-high 28 points from Ailey Marshall.
- Medal day at the 2026 U15 and U17 National Championships gets underway tomorrow, with the U15 bronze-medal game between British Columbia and Quebec tipping off at 9 a.m. ET. The U17 bronze-medal game between Nova Scotia and British Columbia follows at 11 a.m. ET, before the gold-medal games at 1:15 p.m. ET (U15) and 3:45 p.m. ET (U17).
