Owen Klassen and Shaina Pellington Named Toyota Players of the Week for June 7-13.

Owen Klassen and Shaina Pellington have been selected as the Toyota Players of the Week for June 7-13. 

Klassen made a statement averaging 12 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and shooting 56% from the field in two games over the past week with the French team Boulazac Basket Dordogne (LNB). The Kingston, ON native played five years at Acadia University (U SPORTS) and won a silver medal with Team Canada at the 2011 FISU games before making his professional career debut overseas in the Macedonian Adriatic League with MZT Skopje. Having represented Canada at 28 games in the past, the 6’10” centre will participate at Canada’s Senior Men’s National Team Training camp this week ahead of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

Pellington led Canada in scoring through the first 4 games at the FIBA 2021 AmeriCup averaging 13.8 point per game, while shooting 55.6% from the field. The 5’8” guard also leads Team Canada in assists (2.8 APG), and is second in steals (1.8 SPG). The 5’6” guard from Pickering, ON was named the Big XII Freshman of the Year in 2018 with the Oklahoma Sooners (NCAA) and transferred to Arizona Wildcats (NCAA) in her junior year. Pellington has played in various international games over the past 6 years with Team Canada, most notably capturing gold alongside her teammates at the FIBA Americas 2015 and the bronze at the 2017 FIBA World Championships. Pellington was a part of the 2020 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament team that went 3-0, securing Canada’s third consecutive Olympic appearance, and plans to make her Olympic debut in Tokyo this summer.
