Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Emily Potter Named Toyota Canada Players of the Week for December 20-26

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Emily Potter have been selected as the Toyota Players of the Week for the week of December 20-26.

Emily helped Esperides (Greece) to an 88-70 win over Eleftheria, scoring 30 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists, while adding 2 blocks and 2 steals in the victory. The 6’4” centre has had 4 straight double-doubles, while averaging 23 points and 15 rebounds per game. The Winnipeg, MB native played college ball at the University of Utah (NCAA), where she became the first player in program history to record over 1,500 points, 1000 rebounds and 200 blocks. Potter has represented Team Canada for six years, and most recently competed at the 2019 Pan Am Games in Lima, Peru. 

Gilgeous-Alexander had a huge week in week 10 of the NBA regular season, averaging 27.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 7 assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.3 steals with the Oklahoma City Thunder and was named the Western Conference Player of the Week. The Hamilton, ON native is making an impact for OKC averaging 22.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game over 30 games so far this season. The 6’3” guard attended University of Kentucky (NCAA) where he played one season before declaring for the 2018 NBA draft, where he would be drafted 11th overall in the first round. Gilgeous-Alexander previously represented Canada in 2016 at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship in Chile where he helped Canada win a silver medal.
