TORONTO (August 7, 2025) – Syla Swords, Jasmine Bascoe and Agot Makeer will not be part of the U23 Women’s National Team roster at GLOBL JAM 2025.

Following a demanding stretch of international competition this summer, the trio will not compete in next week’s tournament and are no longer part of the team’s training camp, which officially opened yesterday in Toronto.

While Makeer will not attend the event, she will be present with the team during training camp and practices throughout the week. Swords and Bascoe will join the team for competition week in a new capacity, serving as athlete ambassadors for GLOBL JAM.

“We’re incredibly proud of what Syla, Jasmine and Agot accomplished for Canada this summer,” said Steve Baur, General Manager and Vice-President of Women’s High Performance. “Their well-being is our top priority. While Agot won’t be in attendance, we’re excited for Syla and Jasmine to remain part of the GLOBL JAM experience and continue connecting with fans as athlete ambassadors.”

Beginning with Homecoming Night on August 13, both athlete ambassadors will be on-site at Mattamy Athletic Centre throughout the week, taking part in game day appearances and meet-and-greet opportunities with fans.

Swords helped Canada earn bronze at the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup in Santiago, Chile — hitting the game-winning shot in double overtime against Argentina — before joining Bascoe and Makeer at the FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup in Brno, Czechia, where Canada finished fourth overall.

With GLOBL JAM coming on the heels of back-to-back international tournaments — and long collegiate seasons for Swords and Bascoe, as well as a full high school campaign for Makeer — all three athletes will take this time to rest and recover.

GLOBL JAM runs August 13–17 at Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto. Tickets are on sale at globljam.ca.
