BUCHAREST (Aug 11, 2019) – Team Canada captured their second consecutive FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series title at the ninth stop in Bucharest on August 10-11.

After winning their first ever Women’s Series title with victory in Prague earlier this month, Canada carried that momentum into Romania this past weekend. After an early loss to Russia (21-11), Canada rebounded with a dominant 22-3 victory over Czech Republic.

Katherine Plouffe, Michelle Plouffe, Paige Crozon and Mariah Nunes represented Canada this weekend and entered the tournament as the No. 7 seeds.  Canada took care of business against Spain and Poland in the knockout stages to set up a rematch with Russia in the final. This time it was all Canada as they cruised to 21-15 victory over the No. 2 seeds.

Michelle Plouffe finished a game-high nine points in the finals to earn tournament MVP honours, after finishing with 45 overall points overall in six games.

The FIBA 3x3 Women's Series is the first-ever FIBA 3x3 competition dedicated to women.  Each national federation can register one team at the FIBA 3x3 Women's Series. Teams then qualify for individual events based on the number of events they have already been allocated to and their team ranking.

Canada has now closed the gap on France (570 points) and are outright in second (410). Italy sit third with 350 points.

Canada has had a top four placement in each of the five tournaments they've entered this season.

The Women's Series Bucharest was the ninth event of the FIBA 3x3 Women's Series 2019.  The 2019 season will consist of 8-12 events from May to September.  The next stop will be in Xiong’an on August 22-23.  All games will be streamed live via FIBA 3x3 YouTube.

Canada is currently ranked 28th (5th Americas) in the FIBA 3x3 Federation Rankings.
