The FIBA U16 Women’s Americas Championship 2023 will run June 13-19, 2023 in Yucatán, Mexico. The field will comprise the top eight teams from across the Americas zone. All the action will be streaming live on FIBA’s YouTube channel.

All eight teams participating in the event will advance to the quarter-finals, with the semifinal and final to proceed.

The top four teams in the event will successfully qualify for next summer’s FIBA U17 Women’s Basketball World Cup 2024.

Fabienne Blizzard will be making her head coaching debut for Canada at the tournament and will be joined on the bench by assistant coaches Isabel Ormond and Dianna Ros.

Canada has reached the podium in every instalment of the tournament dating back to 2009, including a gold medal win in 2015 over Brazil. Canada enters the tournament with silver medals in each of the last three FIBA U16 Women’s Americas Championships.

Prior to departing for Mexico, Canada held a selection camp with 17 athletes at Humber College from May 31-June 8.

Canada is currently ranked 5th overall in the FIBA women’s age-group rankings, presented by Nike, up three spots following the conclusion of the FIBA 2022 Youth Events.
