U17 Women Advance to the Quarter Finals of the FIBA World Championships

Zaragoza, Spain) After finishing the first round of pool play 3-0 the U17 Women were matched up today against Mexico in the the round of 16. They Canadian women came out victorious winning 72-37.

Starting for Canada were Shaina Pellington, Hailey Brown, Alyssa Jerome, Sarah Donovan and Laeticia Amihere. Click here for full team roster.

Roxane Makolo was named the top performer of the game by FIBA. She had a strong well rounded performance scoring 10 points, securing 12 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 steals. Hailey Brown was also strong offensively scoring 14 points.

Canada was unstoppable on offense and scored with little interference from Mexico. Canada was 40% from the 2-point range. 21% more accuracy then Mexico's 2-point range percentage of 18%. Canada also out scored Mexico 56% from the 3-point range, 54%-19%.

Canada's defensive intensity allowed them to pull ahead in the score. Mexico shots were not falling and Canada didn't allow any second chances. They grabbed 43 defensive rebounds while Mexico only had 18.

Canada played a fast game always pushing the ball up the court looking for the easy buckets. They scored 11 points from fast breaks and 32 points from inside the paint.
