Canada started the game on a 7-0 to set the tone. After holding Spain scoreless for the opening three minutes, the European side settled in. Through 10 minutes of play, Spain led 21-17.

The two teams played fairly even until Roxane Makolo dropped seven straight points to give Canada 38-32 lead. Spain completed an and-one play in the final seconds of the half, but the U17 Women's National Team held a 39-36 advantage after the first half.

Using a full-court press and a fast tempo, Canada jumped out to a double-digit lead. Defensive rebounds led to fast breaks and easy scores. An 11-2 run through the middle of the quarter helped push the Canadian lead to 57-50 heading into the fourth quarter.

Spain made plays at the start of the final quarter and Canada answered with shots of their own. But the host country would not be denied in the final minutes, forcing turnovers on defence and getting to the rim for lay-ups or free throws. The U17 Women's National Team could not hold on and lost 75-72.

The 7th-place game will take place on July 2, where Canada will play the loser of France-Czech Republic game at a time to be determined. Follow @CanBball for updates or visit FIBA.com/u17women.
