TORONTO (Apr. 17, 2025) — Canada Basketball announced on Thursday, the 47 athletes from across the country will participate this weekend in a U19 Men’s High Performance National Team Assessment Camp at Humber College from April 18-21.
The objective of the camp is to provide a national training environment with an international focus to top identified athletes in a variety of age groups ranging from those born in 2006 and later. At the camp, national team coaches, sports scientists and technical staff will work to identify athletes who will be invited to the next stage of the 2025 age-group programs later this summer.
Athletes will also participate in workshops on mental performance, as well as various aspects of athlete performance, including strength and conditioning, rehab and recovery, as well as nutrition.
Players selected to participate in this camp were identified based on their performance at regional identification camps across the country. Individual performances during high school seasons and club competitions were also evaluated.
Athletes born in 2006 or later will be assessed for participation on the U19 team, which will compete this summer at the FIBA U19 Men’s Basketball World Cup 2025, which will run June 28 to July 6 in Lausanne, Switzerland. Last summer, the U18 Men’s National Team claimed a bronze medal at the FIBA U18 Men’s AmeriCup 2024.
As announced earlier today, Ramon Diaz will lead Canada once again this summer, after being announced as head coach of the U19 Men’s National Team.
Canada Basketball would like to extend its appreciation and thanks to our PTSO partners across the country, as well as clubs, coaches and schools for their collaboration and efforts in identifying talent across Canada.
Canada is currently ranked 10th overall in the FIBA boy’s age-group rankings, presented by Nike, following the conclusion of the FIBA 2024 Youth Events.
