TORONTO, Ont. (July 6, 2023) – Canada Basketball, the Canada Basketball Foundation, and Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities (Jumpstart) are teaming up once again this summer to host GLOBL JAM JUMPSTART LEGACY DAY.

GLOBL JAM JUMPSTART LEGACY DAY will be held at Malvern Family Resource Centre in Scarborough on Monday, July 10, starting at 11:00 a.m. ET.

Over 70 youth from the local Scarborough community aged 8-13 will participate in an exciting day of basketball-related activities led by Canada Basketball’s UNIFIED Partners, such as skills and drills led by Lay-Up Youth Basketball and off-court creative sessions led by Buckets and Borders. The youth will be joined by representatives from Team Canada and each of the international teams participating in GLOBL JAM FIVES.

“We are thrilled to welcome the local and global basketball community to the court for the second annual GLOBL JAM JUMPSTART LEGACY DAY,” said Marco Di Buono, President of Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities. “Together with Canada Basketball, we are helping to inspire the next generation of basketball players and creating more opportunities for youth to get in the game.”

At GLOBL JAM JUMPSTART LEGACY DAY, the Canada Basketball Foundation will announce this year's ten grant recipients through the inaugural UNIFIED Assist Program, which includes three grants sponsored by Jumpstart. Earlier this year, the Canada Basketball Foundation launched the UNIFIED Assist Program to support non-profit community programs and initiatives that are developing inclusive and equitable opportunities for youth through sport.

Last year, Canada Basketball, Jumpstart, and Sun Life announced six $10,000 grants to local and regional organizations committed to making an impact through basketball.

“We’re excited to once again partner with Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities to bring GLOBL JAM JUMPSTART LEGACY DAY back to the community and celebrate the game of basketball at the grassroots level,” said Michael Bartlett, President & CEO of Canada Basketball. “Not only is this event a chance for local youth to interact with some of their on-court national team heroes, but an opportunity for us to welcome all the participating teams to GLOBL JAM and tip-off what will be a tremendous week of basketball in Toronto.”

Canada Basketball will also donate basketball equipment to the Malvern Family Resource Centre, including pinnies and basketballs. Additionally, youth participants will leave the event with an exciting gift pack containing items such as a drawstring bag, sweatband, t-shirt, and water bottle.

GLOBL JAM, the world-class international basketball showcase, returns to Toronto this summer from July 12-16. GLOBL JAM FIVES will feature women’s and men’s Under-23 teams from around the world taking to the court at Toronto’s Mattamy Athletic Centre and broadcast nationally across Sportsnet platforms.

Tickets are now on sale via Ticketmaster, starting at less than $20 per session for two games.  For more information on GLOBL JAM, visit globljam.ca.
