Development Women Fall to Czech Republic in the Fourth Game of the Prague Open 75-70

(Prague, Czech Republic) - Canada's Development Women's team defeated Czech Republic in the first round in a fourth quarter comeback. Czech Republic were eager for redemption after the loss and came out strong in the first creating a deficit Canada was unable to recover from losing 70-75.

Fabian McKenzie: "Tonight we learned a valuable lesson in consistency. We played in too many spurts up and down, so it really hurt us to get momentum. We struggled at the free throw line and that cost us the game."

Quinn Dornstauder: "It's difficult playing in a foreign country against the home team. Even though we came up short, I'm proud of the way that we kept fighting until the end."

In the first quarter Canada came out flat shooting 5/13 from the 2-point range with a total shooting percentage of 39%. They struggled to create opportunities for themselves never getting to the foul line or getting up any 3-point attempts. While the Czech women at a total shooting percentage of 65%, got to the line 3 times, and got off 6 3-point attempts. Czech Republic's #7 Hanusova scored 12 points the 1st quarter high.

Canada lit a fire in the second playing shut down defense and with offensive confidence. The development women took care of the ball and secured 19 rebounds allowing limited second chances and turnovers. Canada closed the gap to 43-38 out scoring Czech Republic 14-28. Canada's #15 Dornstauder scored the 10 points the 2nd quarter high

Czech Republic did not back down to the Canadian pressure in the 3rd quarter still leading in the end 60-56.  Canada continued to chip away on the offensive end out-scoring the Czech women 18-17. Canada dominated the boards scoring 9 second chance points. Both teams moved the ball well creating multiple players with scoring opportunities and not one stand out player.

The fourth quarter was a battle both teams had at least three women in foul trouble with Czech Republic's #9 Zaplatova and Canada's #6 Colley fouling out of the game. Czech Republic's #7 Hanusova had the game high scoring 19 points.
