Senior Women’s National Team gather in Toronto to continue preparations for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022

TORONTO, Ont. (July 7, 2022) – Canada Basketball announced Thursday the 12 players attending training camp in Toronto, July 7-10, as the team continues their preparation for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 later this year.

The training camp is being held in conjunction with the inaugural GLOBL JAM, an international U23 basketball showcase event at Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto.

At the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2022, Canada was drawn into Group B and will face Serbia (Sept. 21 11:00 p.m. ET), France (Sept. 23 4:00 a.m. ET), Japan (Sept. 25 6:30 a.m. ET), hosts Australia (Sept. 26 6:30 a.m. ET), and Mali (Sept. 27 2:00 a.m. ET) in the Group Phase, live on Sportsnet.

The top four teams in each group will advance to the quarter-finals with the winners moving on to the semifinals and medal round.

​​In February, Canada went 1-1 at the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2022 Qualifying Tournament to successfully qualify the team for the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2022 in Sydney, Australia. 

The FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2022 will feature the world's top 12 women's national teams, with 38 games to be played across 10 days from September 22 - October 1, 2022 in Sydney, Australia.  The event will be the 19th edition of FIBA's most distinguished women's event.

Kia Nurse did not travel to Toronto as she remains in Phoenix rehabbing an ACL injury sustained last season.

GLOBL JAM offers a unique development opportunity for targeted players within the Senior Women’s National Team program as they also have their sights on the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 later this year and further ahead to the Paris 2024 and LA 2028 Olympic Games.

Set to take place in Toronto from July 5-10, GLOBL JAM will shine the international spotlight on the game’s rising stars and feature women’s and men’s teams from around the world competing in an Under-23 tournament live at Mattamy Athletic Centre and broadcast nationally on Sportsnet.  Session passes (2 games) are on sale now through Ticketmaster, starting at $42. 

Canada’s Senior Women’s National Team remains ranked fourth in the FIBA World Ranking Women, presented by Nike, after the rankings were updated following the conclusion of the FIBA Women's World Cup Qualifying Tournaments.
