TORONTO (le 6 avril 2023) - Canada Basketball a annoncé jeudi que 98 athlètes du pays participeront ce week-end à un camp d’évaluation de groupe d’âge de l’équipe nationale de haute performance masculine à Humber College (Toronto, ON) du 7 au 10 avril 2023.

L’objectif du camp est de donner un environnement d’entraînement national avec un accent international aux meilleurs athlètes identifiés dans différents groupes d’âge pour les athlètes nés en 2007 ou après. Pendant ce camp, des entraîneurs, des scientifiques du sport et des membres du personnel technique de l’équipe nationale travailleront pour identifier les athlètes qui seront invités à la prochaine étape des programmes de groupes d’âge 2023 un peu plus tard cet été.

Les athlètes participeront également à des ateliers sur la performance mentale, ainsi que différents aspects de la performance de l’athlète, y compris le conditionnement physique, la récupération ainsi que la nutrition.

Les joueurs sélectionnés pour participer à ce camp ont été identifiés grâce à leur performance pendant les sept camps d’identification régionaux, y compris la Colombie-Britannique, l’Alberta, la Saskatchewan, le Manitoba, l’Ontario, le Québec et la Nouvelle-Écosse. Les performances individuelles durant les saisons au secondaire ou les compétitions de club ont aussi été évaluées.

Les athlètes nés en 2004 ou après seront évalués pour déterminer s’ils intégreront l’équipe des moins de 19 ans qui participera cet été à la Coupe du monde masculine FIBA U19 2023 à Debrecen en Hongrie du 24 juin au 2 juillet 2023. L’été dernier, l’équipe avait remporté une médaille de bronze lors des Championnats masculins des Amériques FIBA U18 2022 à Tijuana au Mexique. 

Les athlètes nés en 2007 ou après seront évalués pour déterminer s’ils intégreront l’équipe des moins de 16 ans qui participera cet été aux Championnats masculins des Amériques FIBA U16 2023 (du 5 au 11 juin 2023, lieu à déterminer). Lors de sa dernière participation au Championnats masculins des Amériques FIBA U16 en 2021, le Canada avait remporté une médaille de bronze. 

Tel qu’annoncé un peu plus tôt cette semaine, Patrick Tatham est de retour pour diriger le Canada à la Coupe du monde masculine de basketball FIBA U19 2023, alors que Chris Cheng fera ses débuts d’entraîneur-chef pour les rouges et blancs aux Championnats masculins des Amériques FIBA U16 2023.

Canada Basketball aimerait remercier ses partenaires OSPT à travers les pays, ainsi que les clubs, les entraîneurs et les écoles pour leur collaboration et leurs efforts dans l’identification des talents à travers le Canada.

Le Canada occupe actuellement la 7ème place des classements masculins jeunes de la FIBA, présentés par Nike, suite aux compétitions jeunes de la FIBA 2022.
